Pope Leo XIV's 1st Encyclical
"Now I am going to make the synagogue of Satan--those who profess to be Jews, but are liars, because they are no such thing--I will make them come and fall at your feet and admit that you are the people that I love." Rev. 3:9
After the
destruction of the Jewish temple in the year 70, the Jewish community was split
between the synagogue Jews and the Christian Jews. There was hostility between them as indicated
by John’s book of Revelation and other scriptural passages.
Does Pope
Leo XIV’s Encyclical serve as a follow-up to Leo XIII’s inaugural Encyclical on
social justice, Rerum Novarum 1891, or simply a demonstration of a root
of anti-semitism?
